Liverpool winger Stewart Downing says he hopes he can start more games for the club after his Europa League performance against Anzhi. Downing bagged a goal which proved to be decisive as Liverpool secured a narrow win. Downing has played most of his football for Liverpool this season from the bench.

Brendan Rodgers has defended his decision to field a strong side for the Europa League win over Anzhi. Rodgers named a number of first choice players for the match with the derby against Everton now only two days away. Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez and Daniel Agger all featured in the win.

Brendan Rodgers has said he has no new fitness worries ahead of the Premier League match against Everton. There were worries that the fitness of key players would come under doubt with so little time to recover after the Europa League match with Anzhi. However, Rodgers has confirmed he intends to name a full strength side.

Liverpool scouts are tracking the progress of Celtic striker Gary Hooper according to reports. Liverpool are thought to be ready to offer £7 million to Celtic for Hooper’s services as they seek a high quality and effective striker to partner Luis Suarez. Hooper won the golden boot in the SPL last season.

Lazio have ruled out speculation linking key player Hernanes with a move to Liverpool. The 19 million Euro rated star is thought to be on the hit list for Brendan Rodgers but the club have ruled out selling them to anyone. Lazio have confirmed there have been rumours linking Hernanes with a move away.

Brendan Rodgers has spoken positively about how winger Raheem Sterling is handling his time in the limelight. Rodgers was speaking in the Liverpool documentary Being Liverpool which has recently been shown on UK TV channel Channel 5.

Jason McAteer has criticised Anzhi and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez following the Europa League game. The former Kop midfielder described the Russian side as overrated and boring while he said Suarez’s performance was one of the most frustrating he has seen from a Liverpool forward.

Reading striker Jason Roberts has said that Liverpool striker Luis Suarez should have been sacked after racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra last season. Roberts has criticised the way Liverpool handled the affair as he continues to lead player protests against anti-racism campaign groups.
