Fantasy Football preview: Gameweek 10

Van Persie Training

After the drama at Chelsea and Reading last week, there are plenty of games that look likely to produce low scores this week, so you may need to invest big in a couple of teams to pick up the points.

Fixtures Analysis: The first game of the weekend is tricky to call. Manchester United have a great recent record against Arsenal, but Wenger will be keen not to concede many after last year's embarrassment. Ferguson's men have looked excellent going forward though, so their attack will be worth investing in. Spurs have the standout fixture of the weekend amongst the top teams, facing Wigan at home, and West Brom's recent form, combined with a visit from Southampton, makes them wroth considering. Chelsea head to Swansea in a match where players from both teams could yield attacking returns. Finally, QPR and Sunderland require attention despite their poor form, as they host Reading and Aston Villa respectively.

Players In: Robin van Persie's (13.4) form means he has to be a nailed pick on against his former club, and with United's fixture list looking points friendly after this week, Antonio Valencia (8.6) could be worth picking up as well. Arsenal's quick attack and United's leaky defence means you should probably confine investment to their forwards, but Rafael (6.0) has shown himself to be a potent attacking threat in tandem with Valencia so could be a good choice regardless. From Spurs, Jermain Defoe (8.0) has 10 goals in 11 games against Wigan, though that includes his 5 goal haul in the 9-1 win a couple of years ago. Gareth Bale (9.6) has two goals in two since returning from paternity leave, so must be considered for this weekend, and Aaron Lennon (7.1) has shown some excellent recent form as well.

West Brom's Shane Long looks likely to be out for a little while, so Romelu Lukaku (6.4) could be the man to bring in for Monday's game with Southampton. The Belgian scored against Newcastle last week, and looks more impressive with each game. James Morrison (6.2) is always a good fantasy football pick, and could be a solid budget option this week. The Swansea vs Chelsea match doesn’t look great on paper, but each team has attacking options in good form. Michu (7.3) has a wonderful home record for Swansea, scoring in four of their five games at the Liberty, and is now playing as a striker. Juan Mata (9.4) is the best player in the Premiership at the moment, and can't be ignored.

Sunderland have the second best defensive record in the league at the moment, so Carlos Cuellar (4.5) looks good value for a clean sheet against his former club. Steven Fletcher (7.4) is still the only attacking threat worth considering. From QPR, Hoilett (5.8) or Zamora (6.4) give the potential for a goal, though their defence might be worth avoiding for the moment.

Selection Doubts: Demba Ba is still only rated 50/50 for Newcastle's trip to Liverpool, whilst Shane Long is definitely out for West Brom. Arsenal have several injuries, with Gervinho joining Gibbs, Szczesny and Diaby on the sidelines. Mousa Dembele is out of the Wigan match, but Adebayor is back in the squad. Miyaichi remains out for Wigan.

Captain Choice: The lure of an in form Robin van Persie against his former club cannot be denied, but Jermain Defoe or Gareth Bale are also good options.
