Chelsea latest: including Terry injury update and Romeu exit

John Terry 2

A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

John Terry’s injury may be less bad than first feared, but the Chelsea captain will be out for minimum of two weeks after the clash with Luis Suarez at the weekend. Early indications have been positive in that it looks like Terry has not damaged his ligaments, which could have meant the end of his season.

Whatever the length of the injury, Di Matteo has said his Chelsea team can cope in their captain’s absence due to the cover they have in that area. Ivanovic stepped into the centre at the weekend, and David Luiz and Gary Cahill should both be options for next weekend’s match with West Brom.

Petr Cech has also stated Chelsea will be able to cope without Terry, but questions remains over the side as they have conceded twelve goals in the five matches Terry has missed recently, and also conceded in his absence on Saturday.

Suarez himself sent a message to Terry via Twitter which read:

'...hugs to Terry, I hope it's nothing serious'

Ahead of the international schedule this midweek John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses have both withdrawn from the Nigeria squad. They were due to meet up with the Nigerian squad to play Venezuela in Miami on Wednesday, but their country’s FA said they had been allowed not to travel after "requesting time off to either deal with a personal issue and recover from a minor knock".

In England international news, Daniel Sturridge wants to repay Roy Hodgson for showing faith in him by calling him up to the squad despite his lack of starts for Chelsea. Sturridge also said any minutes he can get for his country would be a fantastic opportunity.

Both Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard have been linked with moves away from Chelsea again today. Robert Pires has said that he expects Cole to go to Paris St Germain next summer, as Ancelotti looks to lure Cole to Paris with a huge contract offer.

For his part Frank Lampard is being linked with a January move to China, with Guizhou Renhe reportedly already in talks with the England midfielder. Renhe official Yang Xiayou said that his club were talking to Lampard, though no deal had been done yet.

Another player who may look to leave the Blues in January is Oriol Romeu, who has been linked with a loan switch to Valencia. The young Spaniard has made little impact under Di Matteo, and the loan move may include an option for the Spanish side to buy Romeu afterwards.

Finally, Roberto Di Matteo has reportedly has yet to decide whether Romelu Lukaku will be recalled in January, with the Chelsea manager saying they will see what is in the best interests of the club and the player then.
