Arsenal latest: Including Morata and Zaha

News and gossip from Arsenal FC in the past 24 hours.

Arsenal have emerged as the main favourites to sign Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha. The Eagles have quoted a staggering £20 million asking price for the player but Arsenal believe they can pursue him for much less then this price. The Ivory Coast born 20-year-old is expected to make his England debut on Wednesday in the international friendly with Sweden.

The player being dubbed the next ‘Liam Brady’ has been linked with a transfer to Arsenal. 17-year-old Will Hughes is currently at Derby County and their manager Nigel Clough has been informed that the club needs to raise funds to cover costs in January. The Rams reportedly want £3 million for the creative midfielder who is also being hunted by Manchester City and Liverpool.

Emmanuel Frimpong expects to leave the club on loan within the next month but insists his long term desire is to have an extended career at the Emirates stadium. The Ghanaian is out of contract at the end of the season and it has been reported that the club do not feel he has developed enough to warrant a new deal. However it is now suggested that a potential loan at Wolves could be his final opportunity to earn a new deal.

Kieran Trippier has been linked with a move to The Emirates. The Burnley right back is being mooted as potential cover as Bacary Sagna appears increasingly likely to make the move to Inter Milan as his contract talks with the club dry up. The former Manchester City youngster is a current England under-21 international and has become one of the Championship’s most consistent performers during his time with The Clarets.

Alisher Usmanov, Arsenal’s second largest shareholder has been embroiled in controversy today after it was claimed a PR company doctored his Wikipedia entry. They removed mention of a Soviet era-criminal conviction and of allegations of threatening internet bloggers. The company involved has since confirmed that the move was not authorised by Usmanov himself and that their actions were not appropriate.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in bringing in Real Madrid’s weekend goal hero Alvaro Morata on loan in January. The striker who has been called the ‘next Morientes’ has been a transfer target for Arsene Wenger in the past and after he grabbed his first goal for the club this weekend that interest has now reportedly returned despite Jose Mourinho claiming he is going nowhere. Arsenal are also reportedly keeping an eye on Millwall midfielder Liam Trotter.
