Arsenal to bring in Shakhtar star in January?

Arsenal are the next time to join the race to sign a Shakhtar Donetsk star – except they don’t want Willian or Fernandinho, they want Luiz Adriano.

Reports have surfaced that the Brazilian striker is unhappy at the Ukrainian side and is looking for a move away – potentially to the Premier League.

Arsenal are in the market for a striker in January since the sale of Robin van Persie and the imminent sale of Marouane Chamakh who looks to be headed back to French Ligue 1.

Arsenal’s guns have been found misfiring somewhat this summer – new signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud have both put their names on the scoresheet but not often enough for Gunners’ fans liking and they currently sit 8th place in the table, after taking just 16 points from a possible 33.

They have now got an uphill struggle to make the top-four Champion’s League spots by May and the title looks to be out of their reach after just 11 games. But could Adriano be the solution to their problems?

The 25-year-old is on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Chelsea but has made just 5 league appearances this season after falling out with boss Mircea Lucescu.

Originally a product of the Internacional youth system in Rio Grande do Sul that produced Nilmar, and current hot prospect Leandro Damiao, Adriano transferred to Donetsk in 2007.

He’s since netted 45 goals in 107 appearances and has won four Ukrainian titles and a UEFA Cup.

His deteriorating relationship with his current manager could see him sold-off for cheap – something that Arsene Wenger would surely consider a big factor in any potential transfer target.

Suggestions that the Frenchman had been tracking the striker throughout the summer now look to be accurate – however the manager opted for the French top goalscorer in Olivier Giroud.

The striker could also help fill the void of the imminently departing Theo Walcott who has still not agreed terms to renew his contract at the Emirates and could sign a lucrative pre-contract deal with another club in January, leaving Arsenal short-changed.
