Where QPR need to focus their transfer efforts - Hint! Not on Anelka!

Nicolas Anelka

QPR fan Paul Moore discusses where the team need to strengthen in January.

So the latest transfer target for QPR is Nicolas (I’ve had more clubs than Tiger Woods) Anelka. I really hope this is a made up story!

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out where we need to get reinforcements; Defence!

With the exception of New Zealand Captain Ryan Nelsen and goalkeeper Julio Cesar the defence this season has been worse than poor.

The first place that needs to be organised is the back four; I’m sure half of them don’t know each other’s names.

Anyone who knows anything about football will know a good back four is the foundation of a good side; at the moment the QPR defence look like the foundations are built on quick sand.

With Tony Fernandes sticking by Mark Hughes then surely the first thing to do come this January is to buy at least two good centre backs. When I say good I don’t mean a player that is 36 and come to us for one final pay day.

I’d want someone who is prepared to roll their sleeves up and get involved with tackles. Show some passion!

I doubt very much I’m alone on this. QPR are not scoring as many goals as they should but if we are going to invest and spend money then why not spend it on a player that will give us a few years?

Anelka is 33 and with respect his pace was a major part of his game and age has caught up with him.

Last summer we signed 12 new players and with one or two exceptions they were seasoned pros; it hasn’t worked so why are we looking to do it again?

Alan Hansen once said of Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson, “You’ll win nothing with kids,” and yet they went on to be one of the most successful teams of all time!

My point is if you are good enough you are old enough. We are not winning with older players and bringing in one more ‘over the hill’ player won’t help anyone.

Centre backs are needed and the sooner the better the transfer window is open so the foundations can be firmed up.

Who do you want to see QPR sign? Or is it the management side which needs new faces?
