Dimitar Berbatov and Bryan Ruiz are becoming a fearsome pair

Bryan Ruiz

The Costa Rican had a mixed first season at Fulham but has started strongly this time around, and his partnership with Dimitar Berbatov in recent matches is already looking formidable.

Whilst Dimitar Berbatov took much of the plaudits following Fulham's 3-3 draw at Arsenal last weekend, his partner in Fulham's attack was also outstanding. Ruiz set up the first goal and won the penalty for the third, and was a constant threat to Arsenal's back line in tandem with the Bulgarian.

The two of them have not had many opportunities to play together this season, but in the last few matches, they appear to have begun forming a partnership that has the talent to threaten any defence in the league.

Ruiz has picked up five assists and a goal already this season, having started strongly even before the introduction of Berbatov into the side. The Costa Rican only managed two goals and three assists in the whole of the Premier League last year, and looks far more settled in the new look Fulham attack.

Playing off Berbatov in the matches against Everton and Arsenal, Ruiz looks to be in his natural position, and had produced two of his best performances in a Fulham shirt as a result.

Another improvement from the whole team was in evidence at the weekend, in that Fulham have begun to pick up more points away from home. Whilst they still look porous, they have been able to play their attacking brand of football wherever they have played.

So far they have only lost two games away from home, with one of those losses the narrow 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford. More importantly they have already matched last season's total of 12 goals away from Craven Cottage, demonstrating their commitment to attacking football on the road.

Ruiz and Berbatov can be vital to those away day displays, as the nature of their skill means they can create opportunities for their sides in any match. There is also competition from Rodallega and Petric in Fulham's ranks, and the overhaul of their strikers this summer looks to have been impressively managed by Martin Jol.

Berbatov was an exciting signing on the basis of his own talent; if he also brings out the best of Ruiz then the Bulgarian can be argued to be one of the best piece of business done this summer.

If the pair can continue their form, and develop their partnership further, Fulham fans can look forward to plenty of exciting displays both home and away this season.
