Manchester United defender Phil Jones is set to make his return to the first team in the Champions League match at Galatasaray. Jones has been out since the start of the season and has only just returned to first team training. He could line up alongside Scott Wootton in the middle of the defence as United have already qualified for the last 16.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will miss the Champions League match away at Galatasaray. Rooney is suffering from tonsillitis and may not recover in time to be part of the squad for the trip to Turkey. He missed the Premier League defeat away at Norwich over the weekend.

Van Persie, Ferdinand, Evra, Scholes and Giggs have all been rested, but Fletcher, Hernandez, Carrick and Welbeck do feature. Click here for the full squad list.

Meanwhile Shinji Kagawa's return has been put on hold after the attacker suffered another setback with regard to his knee injury, despite Ferguson's comments earlier this month that the problem was relatively straightforward. He will not return to action for another four weeks at the earliest.

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he would love to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Manchester United. Ronaldo recently commented that he missed Ferguson and the club but the United manager has said Ronaldo is unbuyable due to the way finance in football currently works.

Sir Alex Ferguson is considering a double swoop for German international players Lars Bender and Mats Hummels. Bender has been linked with the club for a number of weeks while Hummels is a new name featuring in reports thought to be a replacement for Rio Ferdinand who may be leaving the club this summer.

David De Gea is back in first team training after missing the Premier League match against Norwich over the weekend. De Gea missed the defeat as he was having his wisdom teeth removed but the club have confirmed that he is back in training ahead of the Champions League match with Galatasaray this week, but has been left at home.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick says the club are yet to be seriously tested in the Champions League this season. United have won all of their group games to date despite falling behind on more than one occasion. Carrick says they are yet to face a real challenge.

Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Norwich City deserved to win the Premier League match against Manchester United over the weekend. United lost the match 1-0 to see their Premier League lead slip to local rivals Manchester City who thrashed Aston Villa at home in their fixture.

Reports suggest that Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is seriously considering leaving the club at the end of the season. It is thought that Ferdinand’s agent has lined up some lucrative offers from clubs in China and outside Europe that would outweigh anything United offer financially.
