Chuba Akpom to see Arsenal first team action before Christmas?

Arsenal Legends

The striker has been added to the Champions League "B" squad, with reports that he might make an appearance for Arsenal's first team this year, before being loaned out in January.

It was only last month Chuba Akpom turned seventeen and was given his first professional contract at Arsenal, but the striker could already be heading towards a senior appearance for his club.

rsenal can add an unlimited amount of U21 players to their Champions League "B" squad, but there are reports that in Akpom's case it may be an indicator of first team action in the near future.

If Akpom was to make an appearance, it would most likely be in the League Cup clash with Bradford in December, with the youngster apparently close to making an appearance in the last round against Reading.

Arsenal have to take points from their last two Champions League matches to try and claim first place in their group, so will probably avoid playing youngsters in those games.

Along with the league cup, there may also be chances in the busy Christmas schedule in the league, as Arsene Wenger is not averse to giving young players a chance in the first team. 17 year old Serge Gnabry has already made an appearance in the Premier League this year for the Gunners.

Akpom has been in impressive form for Arsenal's youth teams this season picking up six goals in the U21 Premier League and Next Gen series so far, netting most recently in the U21's 4-2 win at Norwich on Monday.

He has also played for the England U19 side this season, and has scored three times in three games at that level. The striker may be farmed out on loan in January, giving him a chance to gain more extensive first team experience of English football, but if he could make an appearance for Arsenal before then it would be the icing on the cake of an incredible few months for the youngster.
