Manchester City are the latest club to enter the chase for Brazilian attacker Willian. The Mirror claim that City sent scouts to watch the Shakhtar star in action as they seek to find the missing ingredient to European success. He has been instrumental in helping Shakhtar progress to the Champions League knockout stages, and while he says he is happy from a football perspective, has made no secret of his desire to move to England. Chelsea and Spurs are interested, although his £30 million price tag could deter the latter.
Manchester United are said to be keen on signing central-defender Angelo Ogbonna to replace Rio Ferdinand. The 24-year-old plays for Torino who he helped win promotion from Serie B last season. Ogbonna has Nigerian roots but is an Italian international and was part of the Azzurri's Euro 2012 squad. The Italian side are likely to ask for upwards of £10 million if they seek to cash in on their star man.
The rumour mill continues to link Manchester United with a switch for Leighton Baines, with the Mail claiming today that United are ready to part with £15 million for the left-back. Sir Alex Ferguson looked at Baines in the summer but was put off by a £17 million asking price, but the mixed form of Patrice Evra may have swayed him. It was claimed just yesterday by the Express that United may offer Patrice Evra in part-exchange to Everton, but the report claimed the Red Devils were willing to part with just £11 million maximum. Today's report adds that United have given up on signing Chelsea's Ashley Cole, who is looking 'increasingly likely' to sign with PSG.
Nicolas Anelka is still keen on a return to the Premier League, and reports linking him to QPR are picking up pace in the wake of Harry Redknapp's arrival. It is being reported today that the most likely occurence is a loan deal, with Shanhai Shenhua unlikely to agree to a transfer. The Chinese Super League is entering its off-season, so the club could benefit from sending Anelka on an MLS-type loan.
Meanwhile QPR could be subject to an offer from Manchester United for playmaker Adel Taarabt, report The Sun this morning. The paper claim the Moroccan is being considered as an alternative to Nani and Ashley Young whose form in attack has been lacking so far this season.
Everton are taking a look at free agent goalkeeper Craig Gordon who was released by Sunderland in the summer. The former £9 million man would be back-up to Tim Howard, and join an ever-growing cast of Scots at Goodison Park.
And finally, Sky Sports report that former Hull City forward Jozy Altidore is impressing both Chelsea and Tottenham. The American plays for AZ Alkmaar in Holland and has scored 9 goals in 13 games this season in the Eredivisie. AZ's technical director stated that representatives from both London clubs had been in attendance.
