Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Defoe and Bale exit claims denied

Defoe

News, views, and gossip relating to Tottenham Hotspur over the past 24 hours.

Andre Villas-Boas has got the rumour mill purring with talk over Gareth Bale. Here's what he actually said:

"Spurs and we are amazed at what he can do for us. He is on to a great career. Obviously Tottenham as a football club want to keep him here for as long as we can but we understand players like this have propositions and a market which is the nature of the game."

It sounds logical enough, even if the thought of Bale leaving is enough to make Spurs fans feel quite sick. The winger was excellent last night against Liverpool, scoring one and creating another, and even notching a comedy own goal for good effect. HITC's Lewis Doe presents his view on why even for £100 million, Spurs should not sell the Welshman.

So AVB this evening sought to clarify his comments on Bale, who has a contract until 2016:

"Like all of our key players, Gareth is on a long-term contract as we continue to build for the future and his progression will be of benefit to our team.

"He is an important part of our future and we have no intention of letting any of our top players go."

Jermain Defoe is another who has been linked away, namely with the chance to join former boss Harry Redknapp at QPR, who also signed him for Portsmouth, but the player has scotched such talk.

"That's not going to happen. I'm not leaving Tottenham," Defoe told Sky Sports News. "To score goals at such a big club like this, it's fantastic. I can honestly say that even if the opportunity [arose] to leave the club it won't be happening."

The striker even added he is prepared to see out his career at the club:

"I want to achieve something special for the club. The team spirit is great, we have a laugh every day - it's great and I would like to finish my career at Tottenham."

Back to Bale, and the Welshman has once again denied diving allegations after he was booked in last night's win over Liverpool. He said after the match he was clipped by Daniel Agger, and sought to dull down any controversy.

Roma have banned two 'fans' for five years after their involvement in the attack on Spurs supporters in Rome last week. The pair remain in police custody, but their charges of attempted murder have been downgraded to aggravated wounding.

Clint Dempsey has spoken out on why he left Fulham, saying he did not feel valued. Spurs travel to Craven Cottage this weekend and his comments will certainly spice up the encounter.

And finally, midfielder Sandro can be seen as you've never seen him before...playing guitar. The midfielder sings to Coldplay and the Black Eyed Peas in this astounding video he performed for the Mail.
