ICAP Hires In Merger Arbitrage Group

ICAP Plc has hired leading industry analyst Stephen Velgot to its U.S. Institutional Event Driven-Merger Arbitrage desk.

Velgot joins an experienced team in ICAP’s Merger Arbitrage group.

ICAP’s U.S. Merger Arbitrage group consists of five professionals with over 100 years of combined experience in the merger arbitrage/financial services space at some of the world’s premier firms and banks. The group offers a premium, low-risk strategy to institutional investors (banks, hedge funds and asset managers) for agency execution of shares of public companies as they go through the process of merging. ICAP specializes in merger arbitrage, special situations and event driven opportunities in Europe, North America and Latin America.

Velgot has held senior positions with the Susquehanna International Group, Chemical Bank, Tejas Securities, Cathay Financial, and Harbert Management. He has over 25 years of experience in the financial markets, and received his MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business, and went to undergraduate school at Cornell University. Stephen holds Series 7, 24, 63, 86 and 87 licenses.

Since 2005, Nicolas has been Sales team leader of the U.S. Institutional Event Driven-Merger Arbitrage Desk at ICAP. Before that, she was VP of Sales at Fimat’s Risk Arbitrage Desk. She has previously held positions with HSBC, Societe Generale, and BNP Paribas banks, among others. She earned a Master's degree in Financial Techniques at Essec Business School in Paris and speaks English, French and Turkish.

Popper has over 35 years of experience in the global financial markets. He started his career as a bond trader with A.G. Becker went on to be an Equity Analyst with Value Line and has held more recent positions with P. Schoenfeld Asset Management, Matlin Patterson Distressed Opportunities Fund, Pacific Group Private Equity Fund, and Clearview Trading, where he was Research Director. William received an MBA from the University of Chicago and went to undergraduate school at George Washington University in Washington, DC.
