Manchester United have again been linked with signing Athletic Bilbao midfielder who impressed against them last season. The Mirror claim Sir Alex Ferguson sent his brother Martin on a scouting mission last week to watch him in action. United were put off by Bilbao's £25 million valuation in the summer of the player, and it is expected they would still have to part with the best part of £20 million to secure his signature this January.
The race for PSV midfielder Kevin Strootman is hotting up, with several Premier League clubs interested in the Dutch international's signature. Manchester United are long-term admirers of the player, compared to Roy Keane. However today's Mail has claimed both Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in him. Scouts from both all three were in attendance for the weekend's clash against rivals Ajax. The 22-year-old is rated at £20 million.
It has been reported that Newcastle striker Demba Ba has turned down the Magpies latest offer of a new contract. Ba is holding out for more than £80,000 a week, and Newcastle are already said to be looking at options to replace the Senegal striker. The forward has been linked previously with Liverpool and Arsenal but it is not yet clear how the latest contract developments will affect his status at the club in January.
Gareth Bale has once again ignited the La Liga rumours by claiming he would welcome a move abroad 'at some stage', but we would advise Tottenham fans to take reports with a pinch of salt as the winger has a contract until 2017. Andre Villas-Boas also stated last week it was 'impossible' for Spurs to sell the winger.
Bolton's Mark Davies was linked with signing for Liverpool in the summer, only for such a move to fail to materialise. Now the Championship midfielder has been linked with signing for Swansea City. It is being reported that Bolton are hoping to raise £6 million from selling the central midfielder, but may have to settle for less.
Harry Redknapp has been linked with making a signing, and it isn't an old face. It is Rennes defender Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik, who is 23 and plays international football for Cameroon. The centre-back has made 15 appearances for his club this season and could be available for around £5 million.
Tony Pulis is confident of tying down key defender Ryan Shawcross to a new contract. The Stoke City centre-back has 18 months left to run on his current contract, with Manchester United, Liverpool and QPR all linked. The manager stated he expects the situation to be resolved before Christmas.
