Henry to Arsenal for five months could be counter productive

Thierry Henry Two

Theirry Henry could join Arsenal on loan for the rest of the season. Is this good news for the club or a step backwards?

Theirry Henry will go down in Arsenal folklore as possibly the best striker the club has ever had. They look set to turn to him again in January according to latest reports and could even make a January loan deal last until the end of the current season.

There’s little doubt that this will add to the Arsenal attack especially as Lukas Podolski has picked up an injury and Gervinho will be away playing in the African Cup of Nations. Henry would relish the chance to lead the attack of the side he holds closest to his heart.

Henry could add a great deal to the current Arsenal side which is struggling to get into the top six of the Premier League at the moment. His experience would be vital in terms of goal scoring. Although he lacks the pace he once had, he is still a very good goal scorer and finisher which means he can take chances that other Arsenal players can’t.

The move could also have a similar effect to what it had last January. Arsene Wenger is under massive pressure and the club in general is a little bit low in terms of morale. His arrival would perk everyone up and get Arsenal fans thinking that they can still salvage something from the rest of the season.

There will be a slight argument that Arsenal aren’t thinking outside the box with this move but instead falling back into a comfort zone. The lack of striking options through January means Arsenal are in prime position to go out and buy a key striker to partner Olivier Giroud on the front line.

Two big and available names are Klaas-Jan Huntelaar of FC Schalke and Fernando Llorente. Llorente has already said he is going to leave Athletic Bilbao this summer which means he will be sold in January while Huntelaar seems set for a move on as he can’t seem to get a new deal worked out with the German club.

If Arsenal signed either of these players then, unlike Henry, they would not be forced to say goodbye to that player at the end of the season. It would not just be a means to an end but a more permanent signing which could benefit the club over the next few seasons.

So is bring Henry back a good idea? Yes it is, but it may not be the best idea in terms of pushing Arsenal on another level which is what all of the fans seem to want at the moment.
