Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra is wanted by ambitious French challengers PSG, who are said to be willing to test United's resolve with a £5 million bid - And is one which could spark an almighty merry-go-round. Evra has been in patchy form for the Red Devils over the past 18 months and Sir Alex Ferguson brought in Alexander Buttner to compete for his position in the summer. The Independent states that Evra is a PSG supporter and would be tempted by such a move. The report adds that a potential Evra departure in January would open the door to United renewing their pursuit of Leighton Baines from Everton.
Another player effected by an Evra move to PSG would be Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, who had been expected to link up with Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season in the French capital, but as we speculated earlier in the week, that move could well be off with Ancelotti's job at risk with four points from their last five league games. To complete the circle, Cole has of course been linked with Manchester United as an alternate destination, but that would likely be dependent on a summer exit for Rio Ferdinand, after the recent bad blood between the two.
Arsenal and Newcastle United have both been linked with January moves for West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame. The Senegalese midfielder was a free agent in the summer after leaving Wigan, and has impressed since signing for the Hammers. Diame has a release clause which makes him tempting for fellow Premier League clubs, with today's Mail claiming it is as low as £3.5 million. Newcastle are said to be leading the chase and are set on a bid for the midfielder.
Wigan are hoping to tie up a January deal of their own for MLS midfielder Roger Espinoza. The Honduran plays for Sporting Kansas City in midfield or defence and would link up with international teammate Maynor Figueroa. Manager Roberto Martinez says he is hopeful of sealing an agreement for the 26-year-old even before the transfer window officially opens in January.
Arsene Wenger is continuing his pursuit of Wilfried Zaha, who admitted this week he is a fan of the Gunners. Crystal Palace are hoping for a fee of around £15-20 million, but Arsenal are preparing to offer just £7 million plus incentivised installments. However Palace manager Ian Holloway is adamant his star man won't be sold, especially given the riches on offer if they can seal promotion.
Aston Villa are eyeing Ghanaian midfielder Derek Boateng, claim The Sun. The 29-year-old plays for Ukrainian side Dnipro but has recently fallen out of favour and could be available for under £5 million. However the midfielder would depart for the African Cup of Nations in January, having played his part in the qualifiers, which could dissuade Paul Lambert from making a bid.
