Liverpool, Michu, and a most unlikely transfer rumour

Liverpool Ball

Could Swansea City star Michu be heading for Liverpool? We doubt it...

Sunday's Metro claimed Liverpool are poised to make a bid for the Premier League's top scorer in Michu next month. (Source)

They could of course have snapped him up in the summer for a bargain £2 million, but were busy trying to prise away Joe Allen from Swansea instead - Which they did at a cost of £15 million.

Swansea did take a chance on Michu, and it was a quite sensational decision, the 26-year-old midfielder has 13 goals already this season, scoring one more league goal than £24 million Robin van Persie.

It is natural that Michu's form has alerted the attention of the Premier League's top clubs, but a move to Liverpool? We're not buying it.

Firstly the Spaniard appears more than happy at Swansea, under the management of Michael Laudrup and is in the form of his life. Having just adapted to new surroundings in a new country, why up sticks and move across the border from Wales to England so soon?

Swansea came out last week and said Michu is valued to them at £30 million.

A high price tag for sure, and one which will surely scare off suitors. (Although of course such figures didn't stop Liverpool with Andy Carroll). The Metro's report though claims Liverpool will offer just £10 million for him to 'test the water'.

We're guessing Swansea won't even dignify that one with a response.

Relations between Liverpool and Swansea were certainly tested over the summer with Brendan Rodgers switching between the two clubs, and then signing Joe Allen and attempting to beat the Swans to the signature of Gylfi Sigurdsson.

It's doubtful Rodgers will want to antagonise his former club further with a bid he knows will be given short shrift. Michu is essentially a midfielder playing a role at striker at the moment for the Swans, and the Reds need to sign an out and out forward.

Is Michu the answer? It's doubtful we'll ever get the chance to find out.

Is this potential deal simply a write-off? Or could Liverpool tempt Swansea?
