Chelsea latest: Including Lampard and Walcott

Theo Walcott

News and gossip from Stamford Bridge in the past 24 hours

Chelsea are set to offer Radamel Falcao the highest ever wage packet at Stamford Bridge in order to convince him to sign for the club this January. The Atletico Madrid sensation is the worlds most coveted footballer and Roman Abramovich is reportedly a big fan after watching him score a hat-trick against The Blues in the Super Cup earlier in the season. It is reported he would be offered £200k-a-week in order to join the club.

Rafa Benitez has claimed he would be happy to pass over the reins at Chelsea to ex-Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola. The former Liverpool boss stated that he understood he was only at the club short-term when he took over and that as long as he had won trophies passing over to someone as talented as Guardiola would be no issue if that was the clubs wish.

Chelsea are expected to lead the race to sign Theo Walcott in January. The Arsenal forward is currently struggling to agree on an extension to his current deal at The Emirates which expires at the end of the season. With Daniel Sturridge moving to Liverpool becoming the worst kept secret in football it is believed Chelsea would like to bring in a versatile front-man and are ready to test Arsenal’s resolve with a very tempting £15 million offer when the window opens.

Frank Lampard has admitted that he is likely to leave the club at the end of the season. While the club legend was quick to insist that he still believed he was capable of playing at the top of his game for two or three more years he stated that absolutely no talks had taken place relating to an extension to his expiring deal and that he was ready to move on if that is what transpired.

Chelsea have poured scorn on the goal-line technology being used at the FIFA Club World Cup. Both Rafa Benitez and Gary Cahill have expressed their worries at … wait for it … the ball being too heavy. The chip installed inside the ball itself is being blamed for the extra weight.

Chelsea will continue their defence of the FA Youth Cup with a fourth round tie against Charlton on January 19th. After kick-starting their campaign with a 3-2 triumph over Colchester last week they now face a Charlton side that impressed in a 1-0 win over Wolves at Molineux.
