Theo Walcott has just six months left on his current contract, and his failure to so far agree a new deal has become one of the biggest talking points of Arsenal's season so far - With each of Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea rumoured to be interested in the player.
Speaking yesterday afternoon, former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell weighed in with his opinion on the debate.
He said: "People love him, people hate him - but Theo is a good player, a great player, and he's growing every year," said Campbell.
"You can't lose him because his contract is running out or he wants a little bit more money. You've got to keep those type of players. We've lost too many over time.
"It used to be losing these players at 30 years old - now they're losing these players at mid-20s and that's crazy. You can't be losing players at mid-20s because of contract situations - it's crazy now."
That seems a bit rich - If you remember 11 years ago Tottenham lost a player in his mid-twenties after his contract ran down. Sol Campbell was 26-years-old when he crossed North London to sign for Arsenal on a free transfer. A pretty flawed argument if you ask us.
"I've made my decision and I just hope people respect it," - He said at the time. Famous last words. Campbell became known as Judas among Spurs fans and had to endure endless abuse every time he returned to White Hart Lane.
His comments yesterday have caused quite a stir and much mockery among Tottenham fans online. Here is a look at some of the best and wittiest comments on Twitter, including Lord Sugar, who had his say:
@lord_sugar: that's got to be the funniest Arsenal story. Sol Campbell telling Walcott to be loyal. Just like he was to Spurs
@stumpspurs: Is it April 1st? Sol Campbell tells Theo Walcott to show some loyalty! What a prize two faced ****!!!!
@rongangan: Sol Campbell giving advice on staying at a club. That is rich coming from him, he of no principles or honour
@jag1e: That awkward moment when Sol Campbell is telling Theo Walcott to stay loyal
@williams10josh: Sol Campbell telling Walcott to stay loyal...pfft!
@gorbeemike: WOW. Sol Campbell telling Walcott that he should be loyal. He's about as loyal as a frisbee.
@bexxxxxxxxx: Sol Campbell preaching about loyalty is like Nick Griffin preaching about tolerance. Hypocritical idiot.
@gusm_lw: Oh the irony of Sol Campbell commenting on contact negotiations and unsustainable wages.
What do you think of Campbell's comments?
