The meanest home defence in the Premier League is...

Stoke City Britannia Stadium

Forget Manchester City, Manchester United, or Chelsea... The toughest team to visit and try to score goals against is Stoke City.

Stoke City's home record is well documented, the leagues top teams have all failed to come away from the Britannia with three points over the last 18 months.

Perhaps though what has not been highlighted quite so much as it should be is the club's defence:

At home this season Stoke have conceded just three goals.

As a result Stoke's home record proudly stands at played eight, won four, drawn four - making them unbeaten.

It is a key factor in seeing them rise to ninth in the Premier League table, after their quietest summer in the transfer market for three season.

The trouble is, away from home, Stoke haven't quite been the same. Their record reads: won one, drawn five, lost three.

They have also scored just seven away from home, less than the 10 they have conceded.

It is a far cry from their sturdy home defence - However, it is still the joint fourth best defensive away record in the league. If only Tony Pulis could get his side scoring more goals.

Manchester City, Arsenal, and Swansea City are the only three teams with better away defensive records in the league.

Here is how Stoke's home defensive record compares:

Goals conceded at home- Stoke (3), West Brom (6), Chelsea (7), Norwich, (8) Everton (9), Manchester City (9).

If Stoke continue showing the same mean streak through the second half of the season, you have to say a top half finish will be theirs for the taking.

What is the secret of Stoke's home record?
