A round-up of news and views relating to Tottenham Hotspur over the past 24 hours.

Both Hugo Lloris and Steed Malbranque will be reunited with former clubs as Tottenham Hotspur have drawn Lyon in the first knockout round of the Europa League. If Spurs progress through that match they will face either Inter or Cluj in the second round. You can read a full run down how the draw went for the Premier League sides in it right here on HITC.

Andre Villas-Boas believes that the Spurs-Lyon match, along with Liverpool’s tie with Zenit, will show the quality of the Europa league, and improve the image of the tournament in England.

"Lyon is a tremendous tie for us in the sense that it gives this country, along with the Liverpool game, the chance to see wonderful Europa League fixtures being played,"

Spurs have been boosted by the news that Michael Dawson and Gareth Bale should both be fit for the weekend’s match at home to Stoke. Both players sustained injuries in the 3-0 win at Fulham, and have missed the past two matches.

Andre Villas-Boas has also categorically ruled out the idea that Bale could be sold in January, describing the notion as “completely impossible.” There has been rumours that Real Madrid might be interested in attempting a mid-season swoop.

The Togo head coach, Didier Six, has vowed to try and convince Emmanuel Adebayor to play in the African Cup of Naitons, despite the Spurs striker being left out of the squad for Togo’s warm up match with Oman. Adebayor has retired from international football over a row about unpaid bonuses, but Six is aware of his importance to the side:

“I am doing everything I can to get him to come back to us. He’s a world-class player and the Togo national team captain. He is very important to the group.”

Jermain Defoe has spoken today about how much he is enjoying life under Andre Villas-Boas, as he has been given the chance to impress with regular first team action. Defoe has scored 13 goals in all competitions already this season, helping propel his side into 4th place in the league.

In transfer news, there has been another twist in the Fernando Llorente saga today, with Athletic Bilbao fans revealing banners telling him to leave at training in Spain. Llorente can leave on a free in the summer when his contract expires but might be available for a bargain price in January, with Spurs one of the clubs chasing his signature.
