Five Possible Replacements for Demba Ba

St James Park Two

Demba Ba is hotly tipped to leave Newcastle United next month.

Here are five possible replacements for the Senegalese striker, midfielders and strikers, who could do a job if Ba leaves the club.

Loic Remy

Several daily newspapers across the United Kingdom have suggested that Newcastle have secured a £10 million deal for Loic Remy of Marseille who will add to the attacking power of the club should Ba refuse to sign a new contract. Remy has experience at international level with the French Under-20, Under-21 and full senior teams.

The deal is reportedly due to go through in January.

Andy Carroll

Ba’s departure could pave the way for Andy Carroll to return to his old club which would make a trio of strikers; Papiss Cisse, Remy and Carroll himself. Carroll does not feature in Brendan Rodgers’ plans as Liverpool boss which means anyone who wants to sign Carroll is free to do so as long as they match Liverpool’s valuation.

Luuk De Jong

Luuk De Jong is a 22-year-old Dutch striker who Newcastle were heavily tipped to sign last season. He has struggled to make the impact he may have desired at Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany having joined the club from FC Twente. The stumbling block here is likely to be the fee as Newcastle didn’t want to pay Twente’s asking price, which will now be higher, last summer. Newcastle may be forced to wait it out until the summer to make a bid by FIFA regulations.

Martin Harnik

Another player who has been linked with a move to Newcastle in the recent past. This 25-year-old forward from Hamburg looks like a typical Alan Pardew sort of player; feisty, hungry, determined, resilient and most importantly, cheap. He could be attracted by a move to Newcastle which would substantially improve his current 800,000 Euros per year deal.

Jo Inge Berget

Jo Inge Berget of Molde is a midfielder who was apparently scouted by the club back in October. He is an attacking midfield player, young at only 22-years-old and versatile in the respect that he can also play a holding midfield role. He has international experience with Norway having won his first cap this year. His arrival would solidify the midfield as opposed to him being a direct replacement for Ba.
