The latest transfer gossip you need to know...
Southampton are in pole-position to sign in-demand goalkeeper Jack Butland, report The Sun. The England goalkeeper is destined to leave Birmingham this January and several clubs are chasing his signature. The 19-year-old is also being monitored by Liverpool, Everton, and even Manchester City. Southampton had a bid rejected for Butland in the summer and are expected to bid again this month.
Tottenham have confirmed their interest in Leandro Damiao and Willian, with Andre Villas-Boas confirming so in an interview with a Brazilian website. The manager has stated Spurs have made enquiries with both Shakhtar and Internacional for the players, and the Mirror claims the pair could cost as little as £37 million combined, which to us sounds like a bargain, if true, although we suspect it would be far more than that.
Arsenal will not be re-signing Thierry Henry, it has been confirmed. A month ago it looked like the club's record scorer was set to return to Arsenal for a third spell, and while he is training with the club, the New York Red Bulls striker, now 35, will not be returning this January.
More Arsenal chatter comes from Talksport, who claim the Gunners will drop interest in Wilfried Zaha because they are confident Theo Walcott will sign a new deal. Walcott is set to sit down with Arsenal this week and go through his contract - which they claim leaves Manchester United as lead contenders for his signature.
Reports from Italy claim Chelsea's Frank Lampard is a target for Lazio this January. The Italians want to offer Lampard a three-year deal at 2.5 million Euros a season, and are willing to move this January. Lampard was linked yesterday with Manchester United, who are considering offering him a deal in the summer if he is still available.
Another deal Chelsea have been linked with is going back in again for Andre Schurrle, but not until the summer. The German attacker is enjoying a terrific season with Bayer Leverkusen and it would take a big offer to get the player who the Blues tried to sign last summer. The Mirror claim the Blues will offer Marko Marin to Leverkusen on loan this January, who has barely featured so far this season, to get in the club's 'good books' before bidding for Schurrle in July.
The Mirror also report that Southampton striker Rickie Lambert is a target for West Ham, who are keen to add to their striker collection. Andy Carroll is injured likely until the end of January, but the Saints are not expected to sell unless for a big fee.
Liverpool are looking to off-load high-earner Nuri Sahin, report the Mail, with Inter Milan ready to ride to their rescue. The loanee has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Reds midfield. The same report adds that Daniel Sturridge's deal is to be concluded shortly, but offers bad news in the club's pursuit of Kevin Gameiro, with the PSG striker claiming he wants to stay in France until the end of the season.
