Manchester United are set to fend off competition to win the race for Wilfried Zaha's signature, according to reports. The Crystal Palace winger is one of English football's hottest properties, and is courting the attention of a number of clubs. Palace boss Ian Holloway believes United's offer is the best on the table, with Tottenham and Arsenal failing to match it. They want to offer £8 million, rising to £12 million after add ons, plus crucially loaning Zaha back to Palace, and also offering a couple of youngsters on loan too. The Mirror report the deal could be tied up by the weekend.
Federico Macheda is a loan target for several clubs, leaving the Manchester United reserve striker with a decision to make. Among those chasing him at Stuttgart, Elche and Levante, but will hope for a more productive time than his goalless spell at QPR last season.
Bad news for Arsenal and Chelsea in their pursuit of teenage star Luke Shaw, he has put pen to paper on a new contract. The 17-year-old left-back has broken into the first team and attracted the attention of the division's top clubs but Southampton have tied him down for the immediate future.
One player Chelsea are said to be targeting is French midfielder Gianni Imbula. The player is currently at Guingamp in Ligue Two and has been described predictably as the 'next Vieira' and would cost no more than his release clause at £6 million. QPR and Arsenal are also hovering, but the Metro report he is Rafa Benitez' top priority.
Arsenal could loan out Carl Jenkinson, The Sun claim today. The right-back is below Bacary Sagna in the pecking order after a bright start to the season and Arsene Wenger wants him to continue his development with more first team football. Crystal Palace had a loan bid rejected last week as Jenkinson only wants to play in the Premier League.
Swansea City want to bag another Spanish bargain, eyeing Real Betis midfielder Jose Canas. City have had a £800,000 bid rejected, but the Spanish side's financial situation is such that they won't be able to hold out if Michael Laudrup comes back with another bid.
West Ham meanwhile are targeting Wigan Athletic full-back Maynor Figueroa who has been a fixture of Roberto Martinez' side for several seasons. The Hammers had a bid rejected for Blackburn's Martin Olsson and are looking at other targets.
West Brom defender Jonas Olsson is the subject of more speculation, a week after being linked with Arsenal. Steve Clarke is keen to keep him at the Baggies and will resist advances for the centre-back, but it is being reported that Olsson wants to quit the club. His destination is more likely to be QPR who have offered £5 million, and want him to replace the outgoing Ryan Nelsen.
