QPR in pole position to sign Loic Remy with Barton bargaining power?

Joey Barton Interview

Harry Redknapp wants to bring the French rumour-mill-stalwart to Loftus Road and may have the essential tool that Newcastle United don't in his pursuit.

Is anybody else getting tired of the name Loic Remy?

I did a little research and in the past four years the French striker has been linked with no fewer than seven Premier League clubs; even before he made the move from Nice to Marseille. West Ham, Liverpool, Stoke, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and QPR are the teams in question but this month it seems he might finally be on his way to the Premier League.

While his current club Marseille are not exactly keen to sell they are certainly open to the idea of getting his wages off the books and recouping a sizeable fee for his services. The two clubs that seem to be going head-to-head for his coveted signature are Newcastle United and QPR.

On paper Newcastle should be the favourites for his services. Plenty of French speaking players to help him settle in, they play a formation he is used too and not to mention he would get regular game time due to the departure of Demba Ba to Chelsea.

However The Magpies are certainly the more likely to count the cost of any deal and may not be willing to meet the valuation of Elie Baup at the Stade Velodrome.

Despite QPR’s current position in the league they should not be discarded as a potential destination. In terms of French speaking players; Djibril Cisse, Samba Diakite, Armand Traore, Adel Taarabt, Stephane M’Bia … enough to rival Newcastle United’s famed Francophone contingent and plenty of friends for Remy.

While they may not be keen on spending too much money the White City club also have one very unlikely bargaining piece. It seems Joey Barton might be some use to the club after all.

At the end of last season when the former Newcastle player exploded at The Etihad his career at Loftus Road seemed over and with Harry Redknapp at the helm a reprieve seems unlikely. Two days ago his words were ‘I am hoping Barton keeps learning French’ which doesn’t give much hope for a return. Regardless Barton is happy in the South of France and the fans have grown to love him at L’OM.

So could QPR have a perfect tool to reduce the cost of Remy and bring him to London?

A simple swap deal is out the question but a player-plush-cash deal is certainly an option. Barton was the Ligue 1 outfit’s player of the month for December so the club are more than willing to bring him on board and it could prove a perfect move for all involved.

Do you think Joey Barton could be the key in pursuit of Loic Remy?
