Newcastle United are on the hunt for a striker, and are coming close, but there may be an unpredictable complication.
Newcastle United are closing in on Bordeaux hitman Yoan Gouffran, with the forward himself confirming a deal is in place.
He wrote on Twitter last night: "Big thanks to everyone who has supported me through the good times and bad times. I thank the leadership of the club and the staff for helping me grow.
"I need a new challenge and therefore I hope that you respect my choice. I will follow all the results of the Girondins (Bordeaux).
"Tomorrow I will be a new player of Newcastle and I am proud. Thanks to everyone....kisses."
So look out for an announcement today, to follow the club's acquisition of Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa who sealed his switch yesterday.
Gouffran, who has 12 goals in 27 games this season, shares a strange nuance in common with Mario Balotelli; he has suffered from an allergy to grass.
The problem was revealed by Jean Tigana back in 2010:
“For a footballer, it's embarrassing, he would have [been better to] play on synthetic pitches in Nancy or Lorient.”
The allergy is said to only have developed in Bordeaux, and he had to go and see a specialist to overcome it, so he will certainly hope for better luck in Newcastle.
However knowing Alan Pardew's luck this season, we wouldn't rule it out striking again.
Mario Balotelli famously claimed to be allergic to grass in a Europa League away tie in Ukraine against Dinamo Kiev back in 2011, and had to be substituted off early.
If Gouffran is half the entertainer Balotelli is, we certainly welcome his arrival to the Premier League.
Will Gouffran be a good signing for Newcastle? What do you make of his allergy?
