Stoke make moves to snatch Arsenal youngster but Wenger has other plans

Carl Jenkinson

Arsenal have received a surprise offer from Stoke City for Carl Jenkinson but Arsene Wenger is seemingly reluctant to sell the English defender.

Potters boss Tony Pulis along with West Ham United, Fulham and Wigan Athletic have all issued enquiries to Arsenal over Jenkinson's availibility with the former offering a loan deal until the end of the season.

Jenkinson had been a regular starter for the Gunners in absence of French defender Bacary Sagna but his return from injury has seen the English youngster lose his place.

Sagna, who has 18 months left on his contract is not expected to renew and Wenger is keen to keep hold of Jenkinson and build him up as a long-term replacement, thus telling those interested that he is unavailable.

Jenkinson, a lifelong fan of the North London side was rewarded with a new contract last year and the former Charlton defender is more than happy to bide his time until Sagna leaves.

Stoke and those other clubs mentioned have yet to persuade Wenger to even seal a loan deal and it is now expected that they will take their interest elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has reportedly been offered Montpellier's star player Younes Belhanda although so have Turkish side Fenerbahce and French midfielder Yoann Gourcuff is at the centre of a tug of war between the Gunners and Atletico Madrid.
