€20 million striker is 'Better than Benteke' - Where will he go?

Dieumerci Mbokani

Arsenal, Everton, and Newcastle have all been linked with a Congolese striker, who his club manager believes is better than Aston Villa's star man.

Dieumerci Mbokani is a name we should look out for, as he could be on the move to the Premier League this summer.

He plays for Belgian side Anderlecht, and his chairman has declared the striker is likely to move on this summer.

He is off at the African Nations Cup right now with Congo, meaning no moves will take place this month, but he is certainly one to watch.

Last week he won Belgium's Player of the Year award, and counts Didier Drogba as his idol. It's easy to see why he won the award by checking out his goal tally.

Already this season he has scored 24 goals in 27 games, including two in five Champions League games, and 15 in 15 in the Belgian top flight.

The Metro reported at the end of last year that Arsenal had been scouting the striker, adding Everton and Newcastle have also shown an interest.

Here's what Mbokani's boss, Anderlecht chairman Roger Vanden Stock had to say this weekend: "Mbokani says he will remain until the summer. We have agreed that he can leave in June.

"I can only see things changing if he has the chance to go and play in the Champions League. He would knock back the likes of Southampton and Norwich.

"English clubs have seen what (Christian) Benteke is capable of and they know that Dieu is even better. A transfer fee of €10million (£8.5m)? I think it would be closer to €20million (£17m)."

However any big bosses preparing to dust off a cheque for £17 million should be wary. Mbokani is 27-year-old, and could be peaking right now, meaning he may not replicate his astonishing form of this season.

Anderlecht is his fourth club, but away from Belgium he has struggled. At Monaco he scored just one goal in 11 games, and a spell at Wolfsburg saw him fail to score in seven.

He is being bigged up by Anderlecht's chairman - who clearly wants a huge price for him, but we doubt anyone will pay what he is asking. Christian Benteke is just 21, and you have to factor potential into the bargain.

The Aston Villa ace is excellent and will surely get better, while Mbokani is unlikely to improve greatly, and is unproven at the top level; Belgium's Jupiler League is inferior to the Eredivisie - an unpredictable measuring stick for which strikers will make it in the Premier League.

If anybody is looking for a big gamble to take this summer, Dieumerci Mbokani is the man, but we wouldn't advise paying over £10 million.

Have you seen Mbokani play? How much is he worth?
