David Villa has three options for D-Day

David Villa

Barcelona’s David Villa is being linked with a D-Day move to Arsenal or Manchester City or he could choose to stay in Spain.

David Villa is arguably the highest profile player who could choose to move on the final day of the transfer window.

He has been linked with a move away from Barcelona since the summer and the majority of the British press is reporting that it’s a straight up fight between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Arsenal would seem the obvious choice because there is a clear opening for him there as an out and out centre forward which seems to be his best position.

Arsenal would be willing to use him in a similar role to the one he’s been playing for Barca so it’s a good option because it will be familiar and will help him settle in quickly.

Manchester City presents the better chance of winning silverware and also to receive a much better personal package in terms of wages and bonuses.

The departure of Mario Balotelli means Villa has an obvious place in the squad he can fill but there is no guarantee he would be first choice in the quarter of strikers he would make up.

Therefore, his options ahead of a City move seem to be restricted in a football sense because of the players he’d have to compete with. It would be the same at the Gunners but the point is he could make himself the first choice striker at Arsenal which would be much more difficult at City.

His other option is to stay where he is and fight for his place in the Barcelona team. He has been used in recent games and he doesn’t seem surplus to requirements despite the fact he is not first choice.

He knows Barcelona and Spanish football inside out and if he can hit a patch of form, the club has always rewarded squad players by giving them regular first team football.

He has to compete at Barcelona in the exact same way that he’d have to compete at Arsenal or Manchester City. He’s battling against Messi at Barcelona, he’d battle against Aguero at City and he’d have a fight against Walcott and Poldolski at Arsenal.

If he chose any of these three options there wouldn’t be very many people who would be majorly surprised, it’s anyone’s guess.

What do you think Villa will do on Deadline Day?
