All the latest Tottenham Hotspur news and gossip.

Reading manager Brian McDermott has revealed how he attempted to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson from Spurs on deadline day. McDermott told today how the Royals made three separate bids and at one stage 'thought the deal would be done.' Sigurdsson made his name at Reading before leaving for Hoffenheim when they were in the Championship.

After starring on loan at Swansea last season and sealing an £8 million summer switch to Spurs, Sigurdsson has failed to recapture that same form, and the arrival of Lewis Holtby had prompted suggestions he could be surplus to requirements. Sky Sports revealed later that Andre Villas-Boas blocked the move, "He's a player that we believe a lot in, and in his future here. We couldn't allow him to leave."

After failing in their ambitious quest to sign Internacional's Leandro Damiao, Tottenham have decided to recall young forward Harry Kane from Norwich. Kane has struggled with injury and lack of opportunities at Carrow Road, and the deadline day arrival of Luciano Becchio from Leeds was only going to hamper his progress further. Kane will compete with John Obika for chances behind Jermain Defoe, Clint Dempsey and Emmanuel Adebayor.

AVB said the decision was mutual: "It was in both teams' interests and the player's interests too, to be fair, Norwich have moved on and have found a striker so they didn't have the necessity to hold on to Harry and for us it gives us another option that has come through our youth level, so it's a common decision."

Tottenham fans have been left feeling less than impressed with the club's deadline day dealings - and their failure to land a striker as back-up to Jermain Defoe. HITC writer and Tottenham fan Nick Harris shares his opinion here, which has prompted a good debate amongst supporters.

Spurs allowed seven players to leave, six on loan plus Jermaine Jenas permanently, but one who did not move on was Tom Huddlestone. They were in negotiations with Fulham over a switch, but boss Martin Jol said that his former club Spurs pulled out of the move at the last minute.

One Spurs target who made a big money move elsewhere was Brazilian attacker Willian, who left Ukrainian side Shakhtar for Russian club Anzhi. The reported £34 million fee tells its own story of why Tottenham didn't move themselves, but we have asked whether the 24-year-old should have waited until the summer and looked at different options.

Away from the deadline day fallout, Spurs travel to West Brom at the weekend in a difficult match where they really need a win to keep pace in the battle for fourth. One player who won't be turning out for the Baggies is striker Peter Odemwingie who failed in his efforts to join QPR. West Brom have given him time off until next week to 'get his head sorted.'

The BBC report Lewis Holtby is due to start on Sunday afternoon, as they look to take advantage of a West Brom side who are winless in five league games. Spurs won 3-1 at the Hawthorns last season and have not lost against the Baggies in their last six matches.

And finally, Gareth Bale has been talking about how he wants to become as good as Cristiano Ronaldo and attempts to mimic aspects of his game. We've taken a look at what he needs to add to his game to do so.
