New Arsenal signing Nacho Monreal believes he can use Santi Cazorla's impressive start in the Premier League as inspiration.
Nacho Monreal and Santi Cazorla are no strangers after playing together for Malaga in La Liga and the former is looking to learn off the latter as he hopes to settle in England quickly.
Spanish midfielder Cazorla said goodbye to Monreal last summer when he completed his move to Arsenal but the pair were reunited earlier this week when Monreal joined the Gunners on deadline day.
Cazorla has been one of the Arsene Wenger's more consistent players this season and has adapted to English life very quickly, scoring eight and assisting eight in his 23 league appearances.
Now, Monreal is hoping to learn of his fellow Spaniard and become a big part of Arsenal's future.
“I spoke to Santi, we had a long conversation about things. I asked how things were here and he only had very positive things to say, " Monreal told the club's official website.
“He said that the club was a massive club, the people are great and it’s really just a big family. As there’s a familiar face in Santi, I am a lot calmer about things” he continued.
“Having shared a dressing room with someone who’s already made this journey is a good feeling. Now it’s my turn and I can’t wait to follow in his footsteps”.
‘I am sure we can be successful this season and I am really looking forward to the challenge. Arsenal like to keep the ball, which is beneficial for me and I like this part of the team’s game”.
‘I love playing with the ball at my feet, short, sharp touches, and good movement. I think Arsenal do have certain elements of the Spanish football philosophy. The Spanish people know that there are players of great quality in this team and I hope we can play good football.’
The player is in line to make his Arsenal debut this weekend against Stoke.
