Arsenal latest: Including Wilshere 'the next Gazza' and Sagna 'devoted'

News and gossip from The Emirates this past 24 hours.

Arsenals academy head and club legend Liam Brady has been heaping praise on young Jack Wilshere today. The Irishman has been saying that the 21-year-old has the potential to be as good - if not better - than the likes of Glenn Hoddle, Paul Gascoigne and Wayne Rooney. The young midfielder has been in excellent form since returning from a lengthy spell out with knee and foot injuries has been touted as a future Arsenal captain and Brady believes he already has the leadership qualities to perform the role.

Arsenal full-back Bacary Sagna has announced he is ‘100% devoted’ to the club despite issues surrounding his contract and continued links to clubs such as Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. Speaking to press in France the French international has made his intention clear to stay at the club and declared himself extremely happy at the club.

Edinson Cavani has spoken out about links with a summer move to Arsenal by suggesting he is entirely in the dark about such talks. Wenger recently declared his admiration for the Uruguayan despite his massive release clause fee of £54 million. However Cavani went on to declare that Barcelona and Real Madrid were teams that ‘stimulate the imagination’ and that he was solely focused on winning the Scudetto with Napoli.

Arsenal are reported to be ready to chase unsuccessful January target Fernando Amorebieta once again this summer. The Venezuelan international currently plays in Spain with Athletic Bilbao and was reportedly a late target for Arsene Wenger but no deal could be agreed in time. Liverpool are also reported to be in the race for the player.

AZ Alkmaar midfielder Adam Maher has effectively ruled out a summer move to Arsenal. The young Dutch international has been on the radar of the Gunners for the last couple of seasons along with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City. He was linked with a move to PSV Eindhoven this January and that now seems a much more likely destination as he has announced his intention to remain in Holland for the next couple of seasons.

Arsenal may face a battle to sign David Villa in the summer after Atletico Madrid moved in for the striker. Los Colchoneros look set to lose star striker Radamel Falcao this summer and see the Barca striker as a perfect, and cheap, replacement for their Colombian hitman.
