Fantasy Football Preview: Gameweek 26

Steven Gerrard Celebrates

To the relief of many fantasy football managers, the Premier League’s big guns have come through the international break unscathed, and now an enticing double gameweek gives a a chance for plenty of points.

Fixtures Analysis: Both Liverpool and Swansea have double gameweeks, with Brendan Rodgers’ side enjoying two home games. Chelsea are not winning matches, but they are scoring plenty of goals to keep managers interested, and a home game against Wigan could see them do well. Arsenal head to Sunderland in decent form, whilst Manchester United host an Everton team who are looking very open at the back of late. Finally Manchester City head to Southampton desperate to get their title campaign back on track.

Transfers In: There will be plenty of activity around Liverpool players this week, with Luis Suarez (10.7) and Steven Gerrard (9.7) looking almost indispensable. However Daniel Sturridge (7.7) is a fine alternative to Suarez if you are short of funds. At the back, Glen Johnson (6.4) is probably the best choice, as his chances of attacking returns are always reasonable.

From Swansea, Michu (8.4) is now quite pricy, but still an excellent choice. Fresh from his first Netherlands cap Jonathan de Guzman (6.7) offers a cheaper alternative, whilst Ben Davies (4.6) is a handy bargain at the back.

Juan Mata’s (10.1) recent form has been unbelievable, and he should be a fixture in all sides by now. Eden Hazard (9.3) should be well rested after his ban, and his price has dropped nicely too if you can’t afford Mata. Even cheaper is Frank Lampard (8.5) who is gunning for a new contract and the Chelsea goal scoring record, so likely to be taking plenty of shots.

Arsenal’s trip to Sunderland might seem tricky, but Theo Walcott (9.6) is a worthy pick anywhere at the moment. The same goes for either Robin van Persie (14.1) and Wayne Rooney (11.9), with the latter’s price-tag and recent form making him perhaps the best choice of the pair.

Sergio Aguero (10.9) and Yaya Toure (7.7) know how to turn on the style when it really matters, and they will be desperate to get their side the win at Southampton to try and claw their way back into the title race. Either of these could become essential in the final weeks of the season.

Finally, it's worth noting the excellent form and ridiculous price of Victor Anichebe (4.4) who could free up funds for midfielders whilst proving plenty of threat himself.

Captain Choice: Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard are both fine choices, but I’m going to gamble that the midfielder might be the best man for the armband this gameweek.
