Tottenham Hotspur latest: Newcastle team news and Bale future

News, views, and gossip relating to Tottenham Hotspur

Moussa Dembele has thrown his name into the hat for a striking role against Newcastle; the Belgian was originally signed for Fulham as an attacker before converting into a midfielder. We have today taken a look at the pro's and con's of using Dembele as an attacker.

Emmanuel Adebayor was due to touch down at 3pm today, after a delayed trip back from South Africa, although Andre Villas-Boas has somewhat bizarrely insisted the timescale was 'planned'. It meant Adebayor missed training and will have to go straight into the side against Newcastle. In the corresponding fixture last year he played a key part in a 5-0 win. While it is assumed Adebayor has made it back safely, there has yet been no official confirmation.

AVB is hoping rivals Arsenal and Everton drop points this weekend, as both face tricky away trips to Sunderland and Manchester United, and hopes to build a gap in fourth place below the chasing pack. He has also praised Lewis Holtby, assuring fans they are yet to see the best of him just yet.

Welshman Robert Earnshaw has told TalkSport the only way for Gareth Bale to reach his potential is to quit Spurs and move to La Liga, and play for Real Madrid or Barcelona. He said: "I want to see him at that level and I think that will take him on to a different stage again because he’ll improve again."

However is it quite that simple? We have taken a look at five British players who have gone to Spain and failed, as a pointer to Bale that a big move to La Liga may not be all it is cracked up to be. Andre Villas-Boas yesterday spoke of his worry that Bale would leave if the club do not achieve Champions League qualification.

Andre Villas-Boas has praised Newcastle's transfer window addition of Moussa Sissoko, a one time target for Spurs. The manager has hailed the signing as a 'great grab', adding: "A couple of years ago he was being linked with the top clubs in the world and to get him at such a low price was a massive coup for them."

Heurelho Gomes' agent, Leon Angel, has said he intends to appeal a FIFA fine for his part in 'irregularities' over the Brazilian's transfer to Spurs. The agent says the wrongdoing was due to paperwork issues of a third party in Brazil, and wants to clear his name. Angel is also England manager Roy Hodgson's agent.

Over in Germany where he is on loan, Gomes is certainly a talking point, as a YouTube clip of his gaffes has gone viral. We have the report of how Gomes responded when asked by a German reporter about the video.

And finally, Sir Alex Ferguson has been fined £12,000 for his comments regarding a linesman at White Hart Lane following United's 1-1 draw with Spurs last month.
