Everton latest: Including Lampard and Barkley

Frank Lampard 2

News and gossip from Goodison Park this weekend.

Everton are reportedly ready to join the chase for Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard. The England international is out of contract in the summer and so far the club have failed to come up with a lucrative offer to retain a man on the verge of breaking the clubs goalscoring record. Completing that feat is said to be key towards Lampard’s decision over his future and it is said he could turn his back on Stamford Bridge for Goodison Park.

Leighton Baines may inform the club he wants to leave this summer if they do not qualify for the Champions League. The left-back has been one of the leagues stand out performers which has reportedly caught the interest of Manchester United boss Si Alex Ferguson who would like to use him as a replacement for Patrice Evra. Everton would be looking for £20 million for the England international.

Everton centre-back Sylvain Distin says he will not celebrate his imminent milestone until he has actually cemented it. The Frenchman is on the verge of becoming the first outfield foreign player to reach 400 Premier League appearances but had to pull out of the Manchester United game last weekend after falling ill before kick-off.

Everton teenager Ross Barkley has returned to the club from his loan-spell at Leeds United. The England youth international spent most of his time playing out of position and was dropped for his most recent fixture with Wolves. Neil Warnock then ascertained his belief that he could not guarantee Barkley the first team football craved by all parties so it was agreed to be in the best interests of the player if he returned to his parent club.

Former Everton defender and current U-21s boss Alan Stubbs believes that new signing John Stones can quickly become a first team contender at Goodison. The new recruit from Barnsley featured in a 1-0 victory against Fulham on Monday and impressed from right back. There was yet another superb performance from Shane Duffy while Tyias Browning also performed well.

Everton have a brand new and very important famous fan as Mark Carney, soon to be the head of the Bank of England, has revealed his affinity for The Toffees. When questioned whether he was a Manchester United or Chelsea fan Carney was quick to divulge his allegiance to Everton as he has cousins in Liverpool.

Some match-facts now ahead of the FA Cup tie with Oldham Athletic this weekend. Oldham Athletic are unbeaten in their previous five FA Cup meetings and won the last fixture 1-0 at Goodison Park in 2008. Oldham have been in good form recently and new loan-signing Lee Barnard has found himself amongst the goals since arriving from Southampton.

And finally on the site this week we have assessed the impact not finishing in the top four would have on the team including the potential exits of Baines, Fellaini and even Moyes.
