Home field advantage to Arsenal? Not exactly...

Flames At The Emirates

Arsenal have lost four matches at the Emirates this season, so how confident can they be heading into the Bayern tie, asks Hoss Jalili.

The Emirates stadium; our beautiful stadium that complements our beautiful style of play, Highbury remains in Arsenal’s faithful hearts, but we moved on…

The last time we won a major trophy was during the Highbury days, excluding the ‘Emirates Cup’. The first season (2006-2007) in our new home our home record was won 12, drew 6 and lost 1.

The following season (2007-2008) it further improved: won 14, drew 5 and lost 0.

Third season (2008-2009) at the Emirates: won 11, drew 5 and lost 3.

Fourth season (2009-2010) won 15, drew 2, and lost 2. Fifth season (2010-2011) campaign we won 11, drew 4 and lost on 4 occasions.

Last season (2011-2012) we managed 12 victories, drew 4 and lost 3 times.

I bring this subject and statistics up as it raises alarms for the Gunners; although those figures aren’t awful we are generally losing our home form and improving our away form; as this season's stats show that at home we have won just on the 7 occasions drew 3 and lost 3, and this season we have conceded 18 goals at the Emirates, more than any other season since we moved here.

The 3 games we have lost this season at the Emirates this season reads: Chelsea (1-2), Man City (0-2) and Michu inspired Swansea (0-2), although the first 2 games you might think their against top teams, however it gives us no excuse losing to Swansea or drawing with Fulham 3-3 after blowing a 2-0 lead...

This season also saw us lose our home record at the Emirates in the Champions League to a foreign team; Schalke beating us 2-0, with teams in the past such as Barcelona (2-2, 2-1), AC Milan (3-0) failing in the past.

Teams in the past would come to the Emirates with ‘get a draw’ or ‘park the bus’ mentality; however this season it’s more like ‘we can get a win,’ this shows general decline for our home being as our ‘fortress’.

Come 19th February against Bayern Munich; the Bavarians will certainly have the feeling of getting the 3 points at the Emirates on current form.

Arsenal must rediscover that fear into away teams to ensure that they keep their fortress intact and with current away form this can be our stepping stone to challenging for the top honours again, with also a couple of top signings...

Does Arsenal's home form concern you or does it just need a slight improvement?
