Tottenham Hotspur fans react to Emmanuel Adebayor performance on Twitter

Adebayor And Saha V Arsenal

Emmanuel Adebayor was handed his first start for Tottenham Hotspur since the African Nations Cup last night. How did he get on?

As usual it was Gareth Bale who scored Tottenham's goals, bringing his personal tally to 15 for the season as Spurs drew 2-1 with Lyon.

The plaudits will come streaming in for the Welshman, but not for the second time in a week his brace has got Adebayor off the hook.

Spurs had to charter a flight to bring Adebayor back to White Hart Lane in time for their clash with Newcastle at the weekend.

So he really owed his club a big performance tonight, with Jermain Defoe injured, it too was his chance to stake his claim ahead of the upcoming North London Derby on March 2, by which time the Englishman may have returned, and failing to take advantage would likely see Adebayor back on the bench.

His big showcase didn't exactly go to plan. He had just one shot in 90 minutes; and that wasn't on target. He also completed just 61 per cent of his passes, the worst in the Spurs team, lower than goalkeeper Brad Friedel (69 per cent).

Here's how Tottenham fans reacted to his showing on Twitter...

@keitthpunter: Everyone slagging Adebayor off needs to direct their anger at those that ensured he's the only option we've got #thfc

What did you think of Adebayor's display and does he have a legitimate excuse for it?
