Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has never been under more pressure, which is surprising because he’s been under the cosh for most of the season.
The FA Cup defeat to Blackburn yesterday means the Champions League tie against Bayern Munich will either make or break the club’s season.
Defeat in the first leg this week could spark a fan mutiny, especially if the Gunners look a million miles off the pace.
Such a result may even cause Wenger to start considering his position and as the same old excuses are wheeled out, there will be a lot of Arsenal fans starting to call for changes.
“It is very painful to lose a game like that. What is important is to focus on the next one – We have just lost a game today and we don't need to think too much about the eight seasons,” he told BBC Sport.
Arsenal fans are now going into that match this Tuesday not really knowing what sort of performance to expect from their team.
Arsenal need a cauldron like atmosphere because Bayern are one of the favourites to win the Champions League, besides purely making it into the last eight.
What the side needs is a fast start against the German side and a quick goal, which will get the fans up and on the edge of their seats.
If this doesn’t happen and it becomes a very professional away performance from Bayern then the fans will turn and if that happens, the pressure is just going to build even more.
Wenger is highly unlikely to be sacked because he’s guided the side through a very difficult financial period.
However, until he wins another piece of silverware, he is always going to be a victim of his own success and although he has legendary status at Arsenal, legends always end up being confined to history.
Arsenal fans, we’d love to hear your thoughts.
