15 players Arsenal should consider moving on this summer - Including some unusual suspects

Vermaelen High Ball

Arshavin, Chamakh, Bendtner, Djourou, Denilson, Santos ... yeah all those names are here but there are also three or four that might just surprise you. Should a cull take a look at the first-team rather than just the fringes?

Whatever happens between now and the end of the season you can guarantee that Arsenal FC will be looking for a massive shake-up in the summer. Some may argue that such an act may destabilise the club but right now it seems the only way Arsenal will escape this rut is for something dramatic to happen. Sure they have been unlucky with injuries to key players and big name departures over the past few seasons but for eight years now Arsenal fans have been told to ‘wait and see’ and they have nothing of merit to show for it.

With apparent money to spend quality players need to be brought in in order to turn the tide at the club but perhaps more importantly players need to be moved on; not just on loan with a glimmer of hope of an eventual reprieve but permanently. It is time for Arsenal to gain a ruthless streak.

Here is a list of 15 players who should be considered for the exit door this summer; and it is not just the usual list of injury prone, perpetual loanee, has-been never-was’.

Which of these would you get rid of?

Abou Diaby

Talented? Absolutely but his injury proneness is becoming a continual nuisance. He started this season like he was finally going to follow in the footsteps of Patrick Vieira but has ended up as crocked as ever. Is it time to make space for someone more reliable?

Andre Santos

Hardly needs an explanation really. Nacho Monreal seems a good buy while Kieran Gibbs could still develop into a top player if he stays fit. The barrel-chested Brazilian has demonstrated more a propensity for speed racing during his time in England than football and should not be allowed back into the fold at the end of his loan deal.

Andrei Arshavin

Definitely past his best and when his contract expires this summer do not expect to see him offered an extension; and rightly so.

Denilson

Just sell the guy already!

Emmanuel Frimpong

Young and talented he may be but good enough to play for potential title contenders? Absolutely not. Time for Dench to find new headquarters.

Gervinho

One of the players who are very unlikely to leave that many an Arsenal fan would like to see the back of. The Ivorian certainly has something about him but what it is exactly I could not tell you. Move him on and bring in some real quality wing-play.

Johan Djourou

This deal seems signed, sealed and delivered. One of the young talents who have not made the grade at this level seems bound for the exit door with Bundesliga his destination.

Lukasz Fabianski

Injury prone and ‘eccentric’ at best. When his contract expires he should also be allowed to hunt for pastures new.

Maraoune Chamakh

The less said the better about the Moroccan flop.

Nicklas Bendtner

Has barely had an impact at Juventus and suffered a serious injury to boot. Time to convince somebody to take him on permanently even at a cut-price deal.

Park Chu-Young

Worst signing in Arsenal’s history? Potentially and getting him off the books should be an essential summer target.

Sebastian Squillaci

How long will this guy hang around. Is he doing his coaching badges at Arsenal or something? A modern day Winston Bogarde who needs to start playing football to cash in his pay check; and that should not be at The Emirates.

Thomas Vermaelen

Possibly the biggest surprise on the list but if Barcelona are ready to pay good money for him then Arsenal should let him go. An over-rated player who has been dining on his early Arsenal form for at least a season now and the amount of individual mistakes he makes must cost The Gunners nine points a season. Fernando Amorebieta would be a great replacement.

Tomas Rosicky

Another player who is abundantly talented but also on a vast wage packet that he barely repays with minutes on the pitch due to his fragile physique. Move him and Diaby on and bring in somebody more bullish.

Wojciech Szczesny

Perhaps Arsenal shouldn’t sell the Pole but he is not looking like a number one keeper for a top four team at the moment. People are quick to get on De Gea and Reina’s back but Szczesny has to be the most overrated goalkeeper in the Premier League. Time to light a fire under the comfortable stopper.

Who do you think Arsenal should get rid of this summer?
