All the latest Tottenham Hotspur related news and views.

Tottenham's young guns have progressed to the next round of the NextGen Series after a penalty shootout win over PSG. Young striker Shaquile Coulthirst - who bagged a hattrick away to Barcelona in the group stages scored the opener before the French side pegged Tottenham back to 1-1. A victor had to be determined on the night, and Spurs were able to clinch the penalty shootout win 4-3. Chelsea and Aston Villa also won their last 16 matches while Liverpool were in action at the time of writing.

There are mixed messages over first choice striker Jermain Defoe. He is not progressing as fast as hoped regarding his comeback from injury, report The Independent, who claim the forward is still 'some way from a return' and looks like being out longer than originally expected. Defoe is yet to start any form of training, while making the North London Derby on March 2 remains an outside chance only. The Standard meanwhile claim the striker still aims even to feature off the bench against West Ham next Monday.

Spurs travel to Lyon tomorrow night in the Europa League defending a 2-1 advantage from the first leg. ITV report that Brad Friedel will continue in goal as he did in the first leg, meaning Hugo Lloris is again denied the chance to play against his former club. The Independent counter in their Defoe report that AVB is still undecided and could opt to play the Frenchman.

Sandro, Younes Kaboul, Jermain Defoe and Tom Huddlestone are all out and the provisional squad looks like this: Friedel, Lloris, Vertonghen, Gallas, Naughton, Dawson, Walker, Assou-Ekotto, Dempsey, Lennon, Parker, Bale, Holtby, Dembele, Sigurdsson, Livermore, Bentaleb, Ceballos, Adebayor.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola claim that Hugo Lloris is a target for Barcelona. The Spaniards will let Victor Valdes leave in the summer, but the Lloris issue sounds unlikely to us, with German goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen of Moenchengladbach rumoured to have signed a pre-contract agreement with the Spaniards.

Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor has been talking down Tottenham and Arsenal, telling teammate Christian Benteke he can do far better and aim higher. The Belgian has been linked with a move to Spurs in the summer by his agent with Villa battling relegation.

And finally, right-back Adam Smith who is impressing on loan with Millwall says he aims to win a place in the Spurs first team next season. With Kyle Walker ahead of him right now, we've looked at his chances of doing just that.
