8. 1991 - US President George HW Bush gives Iraq an ultimatum to pull out of Kuwait or face the full force of the allies

9. 1997 - A sheep named Dolly is cloned by scientists in Edinburgh and is hailed as one of the most significant breakthroughs of the decade

10. 2009 - Slumdog Millionaire wins eight Oscars

11.  2011 – An earthquake measuring 6.3 in magnitude strikes Christchurch, New Zealand, killing 185 people
