For Hire

Bank of America Merrill Lynch has hired Martina Slowey as its EMEA head of prime brokerage, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters.

Slowey was chief operating officer at hedge fund Edoma Partners, which in November announced plans to close.

In the meantime, The Wall Street Journal reports that Bank of America Merrill Lynch has named David Wood deputy head of its Australian investment banking unit, a person familiar with the matter said Friday.

Sydney-based Wood will remain head of natural resources, which includes mining, oil and gas, the person said. He joined the Wall Street bank in April 2010 from Rothschild.

And Bloomberg reports that Monica Hanson has left her position as Barclays Plc’s head of global finance for Latin America, according to a person familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified because he isn’t authorized to comment publicly.

Hanson moved to Lehman Brothers from JPMorgan Chase & Co. in 2001, then joined Barclays when it bought Lehman, according to her profile on the business networking site LinkedIn.

The news organisation also reports that Citigroup  has said that fixed-income veteran Chad Leat will retire after 16 years at the firm.

Leat, 56, was chairman of Citigroup’s Alternative Assets Group, which advises private-equity firms on leveraged buyouts. He will help with an “orderly transition,” Raymond J. McGuire, head of the bank’s advisory business, said in a memo to employees.

Bloomberg also reports that Citigroup has named Daniel Keegan to assume responsibility for equities businesses in the Americas from Rick Bartlett, who’s on an extended medical leave.

Keegan will relinquish his role as head of global cash equities effective immediately, according to a memo sent to employees of the New York-based bank. The firm named Kevin Russell to oversee global cash trading, in addition to his role as head of trading for the Americas, the memo shows.

And eFINANCIAL CAREERS reports that Credit Suisse has achieved a major coup by recruiting Goldman Sachs’ chief technology officer for fixed income, currencies and commodities (FICC) technology, Scot Baldry, to lead its investment banking IT strategy.

Baldry joined Credit Suisse on Monday as chief architect, global head of IT investment banking strategy and architecture.

Bloomberg reports that Getco LLC, the closely held high-frequency trading company that’s acquiring Knight Capital Group, named former UBS manager John DiBacco as global head of equities trading.

DiBacco is among executives retained for the new management team of the combined firm, Getco and Knight Capital said in a statement Thursday. DiBacco was a manager of Kweku Adoboli, the former UBS trader sentenced by a London court in November to seven years in jail after a $2.3bn loss from unauthorized trading.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Goldman Sachs has named Samuel Robinson chief administrative officer and head of strategy for its investment banking division.

Robinson most recently has been chief operating officer of growth markets for the bank, working under Vice Chairman J. Michael Evans, who became global head of growth markets for the company in January 2011.

Finally, Bloomberg reports that JPMorgan Chase has named Jose de Menezes Berenguer Neto, once a contender to run Banco Santander SA’s Brazil unit, to succeed Claudio Berquo as head of its own business there, said two people with knowledge of the move.

Berenguer will relinquish the money-management role he has held since March at JPMorgan’s private-equity and hedge-fund unit, Gavea Investimentos Ltda., said the people, who asked to not be identified because the appointment wasn’t announced. Gavea was founded by former Brazil central banker Arminio Fraga.
