Luis Suarez - Will he be the player of the season that never was?

Will Liverpool's Luis Suarez end up missing out on individual honours thanks to Gareth Bale's run of form?

As we head into the final stages of the season with the players set to vote for their PFA Player of the Season, we have identified who we think are the three main contenders. Luis Suarez, Robin Van Persie and Gareth Bale, but who will get the nod. We take a look below:

Suarez

After a good but very indifferent opening 18 months to his Liverpool career Luis Suarez has burst into form this season, often wasteful in front of goal, Suarez this season has found that ruthless touch and has converted many of these chances that he once would have wasted. After 27 games so far this season Suarez has netted a total of 26 goals and has five assists to his name

Van Persie

Manchester United signed Van Persie from Arsenal in a shock move in the summer and his form has picked up exactly where it left off from last season. An ever present in the Manchester United attack his goal scoring form has suffered a little of late compared to the beginning of the season. Van Persie has scored 23 goals and made four assists so far this season.

Bale

Of late Bale has been in sensational form and has netted eight times in his last six appearances for the Tottenham. Having his best season since signing for Tottenham in 2007 Bale has returned 19 goals and two assists.

In past year all of the voting is usually done by players before mid January which we feel would have made it a little late for Bale to be awarded this prestige honour, as his flurry of eight goals in six games are all from the end of January onwards, but as the voting now moved has Bale timed it to perfection to pick up the award. With Robin Van Persie making a tremendous start to the season his form of late may prove consequently with him set to miss out.

This now leaves Luis Suarez and although we strongly feel that Suarez has consistently been the better player all season, we think the award will be given to Bale. The main reason for this is because although Suarez has been fantastic, it is their fellow professionals who do the voting and with the reputation Suarez has outside of Liverpool, it is of our belief that is why many players will vote for somebody else.

What do you think? Should Suarez win it? Or Bale or Van Persie? Or even Juan Mata?

Tonight brings us another El Clasico encounter. With the tie piously set at 1-1, who will advance to the Copa Del Rey Final. Will it be Real Madrid or Barcelona?
