Liverpool latest: Including debt increase and Stoke interested in Shelvey

Liverpool have announced a debt increase of just under £22 million after they revealed their latest set of accounts. The ten month period up to May 2012 produced an accumulative loss of £40.5 million with a wage bill over the £100 million mark at £109 million.

The Metro has suggested Inter Milan striker Antonio Cassano could be on Liverpool’s radar this summer. Cassano has been suggested as a possible replacement for Luis Suarez but there is even a chance Liverpool could sign the striker to join the ranks of Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Fabio Borini.

Ian Ayre has suggested the pain of having to restructure the club due to multi-million pound losses, will drive the club forward in the future. Liverpool’s managing director has insisted the situation is under control and Liverpool will regain their financial strength in the next few seasons.

Stewart Downing has suggested the club simply needs to keep on winning if they’re going to challenge for fourth place. Liverpool started March superbly with a big win against Wigan Athletic, which has triggered optimism among Liverpool fans that the Champions League next season is still realistic.

Luis Suarez’s hat-trick against Wigan Athletic over the weekend has seen him become clear favourite in the betting for the golden boot. Suarez has scored 21 goals in the Premier League this season, which puts him two clear of Manchester United’s Robin Van Persie.

Jonjo Shelvey could be the subject of a £7 million bid from Stoke City this summer. Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old who produced some great form during the first half of the season, which he hasn’t been able to maintain after the New Year.

Manchester City may have to break the world record transfer fee to poach Luis Suarez away from Liverpool. The striker has been linked with a move away from the club this summer with Bayern Munich also thought to be very keen on adding the Uruguayan to their squad.

Stewart Downing has praised the return to form of goalkeeper Pepe Reina. The midfielder has suggested Reina has reacted superbly to criticism earlier in the season after he made a few mistakes. Reina continues to be tipped with a move away from Anfield this summer.

Daniel Agger has admitted he would be willing to help his former club Bronby. The Danish side are struggling financially and the Liverpool defender has said he’s happy to put up some cash but only if potential investors in the side come to him with a concrete proposal.
