Liverpool fans have a new hero in Player of the Season contender Luis Suarez. How does he compare to their former talisman?
When Luis Suarez was brought to Liverpool in 2011, he was supposed to partner Fernando Torres.
This failed to materialise, as Torres forced through a Premier League record switch to Chelsea days later.
Instead Suarez was given a new partner... Andy Carroll.
While the least said about the exiled pony-tailed one the better, Suarez has been truly embraced by Liverpool fans and is enjoying a sensational season.
He bagged a hat-trick against Wigan at the weekend taking his tally for the season to 21. But that's just in the Premier League.
A further seven goals (four Europa League, two FA Cup and one League Cup) take him to 28 goals for the season.
That's 28 goals in 38 games in all competition, a strike rate better than any of Fernando Torres' seasons at Liverpool.
Suarez averages a goal every 1.35 games. This currently surpasses Torres' best ever season for the Reds, and of his career, which saw him net once ever 1.39 games.
Torres' best season came in 2007/08, his debut campaign for the club. He scored 33 goals in 46 games.
Suarez is on course to surpass that total, requiring just six more goals to outscore the Spaniard in the 10 games Liverpool have remaining.
With a better strike rate, there is every chance he will, and with three of Liverpool's next four games coming against clubs in the bottom half; Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham, he will fancy his chances.
There's no doubting Torres was an unbelievable asset to Liverpool during his years there, but irrespective of the Carroll deal, the Reds are probably well rid of him.
He does not possess the mental toughness that Suarez does, the Uruguayan bouncing back from his fair share of off-field distractions, to hit his top form.
Suarez may or may not go onto outscore Torres' 33 goals, but Liverpool are just glad to have him firing on all cylinders.
It's just a shame for Liverpool fans they never got the chance to see them playing up front together.
Who is better? Suarez or Torres at his peak?
