Three clubs in the race to sign Keisuke Honda

Japan Football Fans

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle have all been linked with the Japanese ace. Which is the best fit for him?

Keisuke Honda is being heavily tipped with a move to the Premier League this summer with several English clubs bound to be interested in him, if he becomes available from CSKA Moscow.

His strike rate for the Russian side this season is superb at nearly a goal every other game. That is a remarkable stat for a player that spends most of his time sat in the middle of the pitch.

Here are the three teams with the best chance of signing him.

Liverpool

Liverpool are the front runners according to the latest press reports. Despite the addition of Philippe Coutinho to the squad, Brendan Rodgers may feel as though he needs some support in the attack of the side.

He’s not a player who is going to force Liverpool to blow their budget or stray away from the current business and wage structure and he does seem like a Rodgers sort of player; small, quick, low centre of gravity, good skill and good on the ball.

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs will be looking to make good squad additions over the summer as they prepare for the likeliness of Champions League football next season. Honda is someone who can push the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Lewis Holtby.

The stumbling block here is the fact there is no guarantee that the Japanese star will get regular first team football and he could spend a lot of time sitting on the bench which will put him off of North London.

Newcastle United

Newcastle will be looking to bring players in to push themselves forward after a disappointing season this year.

There is a clear need for a player of Honda’s type and quality in the Newcastle side and he could be convinced over the move, due to the profile of the club as one of the biggest sides in England.

If, and it’s a big if, Newcastle let Hatem Ben Arfa leave then they will be looking for a driving and creative force to replace him in their midfield. Their budget also means this transfer is possible.

Where do you think he’ll end up? Another club perhaps?
