Chelsea latest: Including Marin and Falcao

Marko Marin

A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the last 24 hours.

Roy Hodgson has indicated he has no plans to recall John Terry to the England team after including him in a list of players who have retired from international football. Terry retired from England in protest after the Anton Ferdinand case, but had indicated he might be open to coming back once David Bernstein was replaced as FA chairman by Greg Dyke.

Marko Marin has said that he cannot comment on what role he might play at Chelsea next year until the club have confirmed their new manager. Jose Mourinho is expected to be announced in the coming days, and Marin will discuss his future then.

Chelsea’s defender Jeffrey Bruma is likely to move back to the Netherlands on a permanent transfer this summer. The 21-year-old, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Hamburg, has only one year left on his current deal at Chelsea, and is in talks with PSV Eindhoven.

Ashley Cole will captain England in their friendly against Republic of Ireland tomorrow in celebration of his 100th cap for his country. There was some confusion over whether Cole would be captain for the whole match, or just lead the team out, but it has now been confirmed that the left-back is the skipper for the game.

Radamel Falcao is reportedly set to join Monaco this week in a deal worth £51million after passing a medical at the Ligue 1 club. The 27-year-old had seemed destined for Chelsea at one stage. However on HITC today we look at the reports suggesting Falcao will have a clause in his contract that could see him join Chelsea as soon as next January.

Chelsea have also been handed a blow in their reported pursuit of Robert Lewandowski, with it now seeming certain the Borussia Dortmund striker will join Mario Gotze in switching to the German side’s rivals and Champions League winners Bayern Munich. The player and his agent have both indicated the move will go through this summer, as has outgoing Bayern manager Jupp Heynckes.

One man whose future is not decided is Edinson Cavani, who has said he is ignoring any transfer rumours and focusing on Napoli, although he will discuss any offers with the Italian club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who recently suggested he had begun talks with Manchester City regarding the Uruguayan forward.

On HITC today we ask if Luka Modric should move to Manchester United or Chelsea if he leaves Real Madrid this summer. We also look at whether Chelsea could swap Fernando Torres for Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz, and ask if Rafa Benitez took a dig at Chelsea fans when appointed at Napoli.

Elsewhere on the site, we look at which players from Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur make a combined eleven?
