Forget Gundogan, this 20-year-old Bundesliga star is right for Manchester United

Borussia Dortmund

Manchester United should seriously consider an approach for Moritz Leitner, Dortmund’s long term replacement for Mario Gotze.

Borussia Dortmund are like a sweet shop for kids except the penny sweets are replaced by top quality footballers who all seem vulnerable to moves away from the club and the customers are mega famous football clubs.

Moritz Leitner has been earmarked as the player to fill the void left by Mario Gotze, who completed his famous move to Bayern Munich.

He’s a player that David Moyes should seriously consider going after for Manchester United as he could form the basis of the club’s midfield for many generations of players to come.

Leitner already has plenty of Bundesliga experience as he was regularly named and used as a sub by Jurgen Klopp last season and even made eight starts for the German giants.

The reason United have to go after this deal right now is because it could become too difficult and too expensive for them to go after him, if he turns into one of the best midfielders in Germany.

There is a clear need in the current United team to prepare the midfield to move forward into the next transition of the side.

Central midfield is an area, which plenty of United fans and professionals in the game all agree needs to be improved and Moyes knows he has to continuously keep preparing the side for the next generation and the next challenge.

He’s young and relatively inexperienced but United need some serious youth in central midfield positions at the moment because Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs are not going to be playing forever.

At the moment Leitner’s market value is well below the £10 million mark but that doesn’t take into account the fact that he has two years left to run on his contract or any buy out clause Dortmund may have injected into his contract.

United do have an ace up their sleeve in the form of Shinji Kagawa who only moved to United this time last year and he could make a United move for Leitner a lot more appealing.

The simple fact that so many Borussia Dortmund players are currently ranked among the best players in Europe means they don’t generally produce many duds when it comes to their youth system and investment.

It’s not as though United are taking a big gamble with an unknown quantity. This is a seriously good player and someone who has only been kept out of the side by players like Gotze and Marco Reus.

It would be a very smart and sensible investment for the club at time when their rivals are too transfixed on buying superstars for the immediate progression of their senior sides.

Moyes has an opportunity and a relationship between United and Dortmund, which still exists because of the Kagawa deal and it’s one he’d do very well to take a strong look at.

Would Leitner be a good investment for United? Would it be pointless to go after him? What do you think?
