Michael Ballack will help seal Chelsea's Schurrle transfer

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack is inadvertently doing his bit to speed up Andre Schurrle's move to the Blues.

Chelsea were reported earlier in the week to have clinched the transfer of Andre Schurrle, but those claims were apparently premature.

Bayer Leverkusen coach Rudi Voller said this week: "Only if we get a top alternative to Schurrle, we do it. We are working hard on this further solutions. But it may take a few days or weeks. The basis of everything is patience now."

Chelsea had aimed to send Kevin de Bruyne on loan as part of the deal but the Belgian is apparently refusing to co-operate until he meets with Jose Mourinho and gets a chance to impress.

The deal will get a chance to progress tomorrow, and it is thanks to former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack.

A friendly game is being held in Leipzig, Germany, a Ballack and Friends vs a World XI fixture.

Ballack, a former Leverkusen player, has invited Jose Mourinho to coach the World XI, a commitment the 'Special One' will fulfill.

In the opposite dugout? Rudi Voller. And that is not it, Andre Schurrle will feature in the fixture, allowing Mourinho a perfect opportunity to get to see him in action close up.

Bild report that Schurrle's father and his image consultant will both be present, making the aftermath of the fixture the perfect time to discuss and finalise the transfer.

Even Voller admitted this, telling the German newspaper: "Of course, (on) Wednesday Michael Ballack is the focus. But it is quite obvious that I will talk with Jose Mourinho at some time."

And if it is ironed out in double-quick time, with Chelsea allaying their fears over the De Bruyne deal and getting Leverkusen to drop their demands and even offering an alternative, Schurrle could be with the Blues by the end of the week.
