'Always red in my heart' - Manchester City star Aguero has innocent reasons for this Tweet

Aguero Atletico

Not because of a secret affinity for Manchester United; but because his beloved Independiente suffered relegation from Argentina's Primera Division this weekend.

Panic over Manchester City fans? After reading the sidebar you should now be well aware that Aguero was not talking about great city rivals Manchester United when he expressed this passionate Tweet on Saturday evening.

Roughly translated the Tweet reads:

"I said it when it happened to River Plate and reiterate it today. The big ones always come back! Always red in my heart. Today more than ever,"

Indeed the Argentine striker was instead showing his passion for former club Independiente; and with good reason to; because his former side have been relegated for the first time in their 108-year history after a 1-0 defeat against San Lorenzo.

Aguero made his name as ‘Kun’, a mulleted teenager tearing apart all-comers in the Argentine league, during his three year professional career with the club between 2003 and 2006, before leaving for Atletico Madrid.

But the 25-year-old was at the Avellaneda based club from the humble age of nine and obviously it has hurt him to see his beloved side relegated from the top flight of Argentine football for the first time.

They are not the first of Argentina’s big clubs to suffer the indignity of a maiden relegation in recent years as money problems affect even the biggest of teams. River Plate were relegated to everyone’s surprise two years ago; but the Avellaneda natives took it a far lot better than their Buenos Aires rivals.

Independiente fans stood firm; singing songs of praise and passion for their club after the final whistle whilst River Plate fans rioted in 2011; so at least Aguero and his family of Rojo fans have taken the news a lot better.

Boca Juniors are now the only Argentine side to have never suffered relegation from the top flight of the countries professional football ladder.

A fact their vociferous fans will no doubt be reminding their great rivals of in no time at all.

For Aguero he will have to hope his beloved ‘Red Devils’ do next year what ‘The Red Devils’ on these shores did last season and win their respective league; ensuring a River Plate like immediate return to the top flight.
