Liverpool ace Coutinho suffers injury blow v Swansea

Liverpool star Coutinho had to leave the field early due to injury at the Liberty Stadium.

Phillipe Coutinho has been Liverpool's most creative player ever since signing, looking every inch the Brazilian wonderkid he was once touted to be at Inter Milan.

In the Reds opening game of the season against Stoke, he created a staggering seven goalscoring opportunities in one match.

He again was handed a start in a pulsating encounter with Swansea at the Liberty Stadium, only for his night to end prematurely.

He was taken off in the 55th minute for Iago Aspas, after falling awkwardly and landing on his shoulder.

The Brazilian was able to make it back onto his feet and off the pitch without a stretcher, but the injury was deemed severe enough by the club's medical staff that he was not permitted to continue.

Swansea defender Ashley Williams, linked with a summer move to Liverpool, was responsible for bringing down the playmaker, a challenge which will no doubt form one of the game's key talking points post-match.

The severity of his injury is as yet unclear, but his importance was underlined by Liverpool's lack of attacking threat after he departed the field.

UPDATE: Coutinho is due to have a scan on the injury on Tuesday to assess how serious it is.
